AGRICULTURAL SCHOLARSHIP

- 2012 -

 

The Darwell & District Agricultural Society was founded in 1944, and is run by a volunteer Board of Directors with elections for this Board being held every fall.    The Agricultural Society maintains the Darwell Fair Grounds including the Cow Palace, riding arenas, skating arena, ball diamonds and the “Mac Shack” concession.  We also host numerous functions during the year including the Family Dance & Winter Carnival in February and the Ag Drag, Outdoor Concert & Fair in August.

 

 The Scholarship:

-        Two (2) scholarships of $750.00 will be awarded annually to individuals who are currently enrolled, or have applied to, an Agricultural, or Agriculture related, field of studies at a post secondary educational institute (College, University etc).  This scholarship is not limited to the current year high school graduating class.  Preference will be given to those individuals who reside in the Darwell/Lake Isle area, or resided in the Darwell area during their school years.

 

Criteria:

       -     Agriculture or Agriculture Related Field of Studies (this can include veterinary, nursing, teaching, accounting, trades, etc. – you tell us how your field of studies will relate to our agricultural community!)

      -     Darwell & Area Community Involvement/Volunteerism

      -     Agriculture Related Involvement – Farming/Horticulture

      -     Personal Achievements and Goals

      -     Personal Interests and Activities

      -     Application Form/Essay (pdf)

 Procedure:

-      Completed applications along with a 300-500 word essay, handwritten or typed, on Agriculture and how your chosen field of studies relates to Agriculture, will be accepted until June 8th, 2012.   Applications can be mailed to the Darwell & District Agricultural Society, Box 99, Darwell, Alberta   T0E 0L0 – please write “Scholarship Program” on the outside of the envelope.   Scholarship recipients will be notified by mid-July. Scholarship payments, will be made only upon written confirmation of course participation.

 The Agricultural Society reserves the right to accept or reject any or all applications and to waive irregularities and informalities at its discretion.   If no suitable applications are received, the Agricultural Society reserves the right to not provide a scholarship.
