This course is recognized by Workplace Health and Safety and is designed to meet the safety and educational needs of any workplace. This two-day class includes both lecture and hands-on practice. Participants will learn a wide range of skills including CPR and use of an AED (automatic external defibrillator), wound care, attending to bone, muscle, and joint injuries, plus treating allergic reactions. Perhaps you have already taken a first aid course- how long ago was that? The Red Cross recommends repeating the training every three years. People take this course for a variety of reasons; for some it is a workplace requirement, while parents of small children and those caring for elderly family members also find these skills useful. Some statistics highlight the value of first aid instruction. Dr. Vaillancourt of the Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians recently reported that 60% of cardiac arrests happen outside of the hospital and people who suffer a cardiac arrest are three to four times more likely to survive when they receive CPR. Particularly in rural areas, we are wise to know what to do until medical help arrives. Studies have shown that 80% of the time people carry out first aid on a loved one. |
